A chestnut can be any shade of red with no black points like the bay. They are very similar to a penny (from brand new to very old and tarnished). Chestnuts can be any of those colors. A chestnut with a light to almost white colored man is considered a Flaxen mane and tail. A very dark chestnut is called a Liver Chestnut. They too can have the flaxen manes and tails.
